October 15, 7 pm, Moore Center

Everyone interested in performing this year should come to the Moore Center, 125 State Street, Ellsworth at 7 pm on October 15. We will meet, greet and sing through as much as we can.

Anyone who is thinking about maybe joining us for the upcoming production of The Gondoliers is especially encouraged to attend!

The Gilbert and Sullivan society will be singing a short selection at “The Music History of Blue Hill” presentation at Kneisel Hall Wednesday, May 29th @ 7:00pm. Other groups will be presenting as well – come and learn of the wonderful musical history of Blue Hill.

It will be a wonderful evening learning the history of music as seen through the eyes of Blue Hill. Sponsored by: Jonathan Fisher House, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music, Blue Hill Historical Society, Bagaduce Music Lending Library and The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine.

Join us for a preshow discussion and song of our next production. David Porter and Joe Marshall will give us brief highlights of both the history of Gilbert and Sullivan’s collaboration and Iolanthe. In addition, Director Dorothy Ahlf-Wheatcraft will take us through her inspirations for Iolanthe. Songs from the show will also be included.

Iolanthe, or The Peer and the Peri, is a comic opera with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert. It opened at the Savoy Theatre on November 25, 1882 and ran for 398 performances. It is the seventh of fourteen operatic collaborations by Gilbert and Sullivan.
